about
Last year, when I moved from Vancouver to Toronto, “Something to Live For” was the first song I wrote. The song is about how we respond to life-changing events, both collectively and individually, and the coping mechanisms we use to manage when life seems out of our control. Described as “90’s meets new wave” by Daniel Brooks (The Marias), who mixed the track, “Something to Live For” combines hazy shoegaze guitars with soaring string machines to create a sound that is simultaneously immediate and nostalgic. Melodically anthemic and thematically reflective, “Something to Live For” represents a hope for a brighter tomorrow, while reminding us of everything we took for granted.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Driving all night in the pouring rain
Everybody’s looking for something to live for
Couldn’t make it out
When it hit me in the mouth
Down for the count but I couldn’t shake it
Everybody’s dying for something to live for
Always on the ropes
Always out of sight
I could never make a sound
I could never make it right
I’m just looking to waste
I’m just looking to waste some time
I’m just looking to waste
I’m not looking away this time
Every time I’m down
Every time I’m down
Every time I’m down
Every time I’m down
Face in the crowd but I couldn’t place
Everybody’s looking for something to live for
Passing in the night
Does someone have a light
Down from a high but I won’t chase it
Everybody’s dying for something to live for
Never in control
Never skipped a beat
I’ve listened all my life
But I never heard a thing
I’m just looking to waste
I’m just looking to waste some time
I’m just looking to waste
I’m not looking away this time
Every time I’m down
Every time I’m down
Every time I’m down
Every time I’m down
